All building permit applications can be submitted online using APLI. Simply click 'Apply for a Permit' to get started. Smaller residential permits (deck, shed, pool enclosure and sewage) can be selected individually. Large Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, and Designated Structure permits can be applied for by selecting 'Building Permits'. Can I submit documents through this application portal |

Yes, you can easily upload documents. Please refer to our Electronic Document Submission Standards for upload requirements.

- Click Add and upload your documents
You do not need to submit the paper version of the Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish, the information you provide in APLI is your building permit application

I started an online application, but I can't finish it. Will I have to start all over? |

APLI's save and resume feature allows you complete your application at your convenience.
If you don't have everything you need to apply, you can save your application and return to it later.

How do I check the status of my building permit application?

Changes to your application status or requests for further information will be emailed to the permit applicant. As the applicant, you can also check the status of your online application anytime:
- Login to APLI
- My Records (top left tab)
- Click the blue link containing your permit record number
- Record Info (top left tab)
- Processing status

I made a mistake on my online application, what should I do?

If your application hasn't been submitted, you can make changes at any time. You cannot delete uploaded documents, nor can you delete an entire application. If you need to report a mistake on your application, please email building.official@barrie.ca with your permit record number and identify the error(s).

How do I cancel my building permit application?

Please send an email requesting the cancellation of your application to building.official@barrie.ca. A refund will be processed in accordance with the City of Barrie's Building By-law.

I am applying online through APLI. Can I make a payment online? |

Yes, payments under $5,000 are accepted online.

How can I submit payment? |
Answer |
Online payments under $5,000 can be made through your APLI account:
- Login to APLI
- My Records (top left tab)
- Click the blue link containing your permit record number
- Payments (top middle tab)
- Pay fees due
Payments $5,000 and above must be made in the form a cheque and be sent by mail to City Hall or placed in one of the City's drop boxes (front entrance at 70 Collier St. or entrance at back parking lot).
- Send to: Service Barrie, City Hall, 70 Collier Street, PO Box 400, Barrie, Ontario, L4M 4T5
- Make payable to: City of Barrie
- Subject line: Permit Number and Project Address
Currently, we are not accepting in-person payments;
City Hall is closed to the public to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Please refer to the City's online Support page for further information.

Can I make online payments for multiple permits? |

You can only make payments for one permit record at a time.

If your payment was successful, there will be a confirmation in your application record on the APLI portal. If you are experiencing difficulties with your payment, please call Service Barrie at 705-726-4242 (Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or email Service.Barrie@barrie.ca.

How much are the development charges related to my application? |

Development charges are charged in accordance with the City's Development Charge By-law. The City has provided a Development Charges Calculator as an online tool to assist in determining the expected development charges, education levies, cash in lieu of parkland, and finance administration fees. Visit the development charges webpage for further information.

How much are my building permit fees? |

Building permit fees are charged in accordance with Schedule K of the City's Fees By-law. Please refer to the City's website for further information. Tip: the quickest way to find Schedule K is to type it into the search function on Barrie.ca

Can I request an inspection online?

Yes, if you applied for your building permit using APLI, you can request inspections online for your issued building permit:
- Login to APLI
- Click on 'Schedule Inspections' on the main page
- Click the blue link containing your permit record number
- Inspections (top right tab)
- Click Request an Inspection
If you applied for your building permit in person at City Hall, you can request inspections two ways:
- Email: ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca (Subject Line: "INSPECTIONS + project address)
- Call (705-) 739-4231 anytime (24/7, recording line only)

How do I know what inspections to request?

The plans examination staff member who issued your building permit will provide you with a copy of the Required Notification
for Inspection Form which lists the required inspections for your project.

I forget my password. How do I reset it?

You can use the "forgot password" feature on the login page to request a new, temporary password. You will receive an email from eservices@barrie.ca
with password reset information. Be sure to check your junk/spam folder.

You can use either your username or email address to log into the online portal.

How do I update my contact information in APLI?

You can edit your contact information in the APLI portal under the 'My Account' section. Once there, scroll down to 'Contact Information' and click 'Actions'.

Will my information be shared with the public?

Limited information in your application will be available to the public. No ownership or other personal information will be available
to the public, and only information classified under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act will be accessible to the public. Please visit the

Can I change my username?

You can change your email address, but you cannot change your username.
Log into your profile on the online portal and access the 'Account Management'
menu to review details of your account and make changes.
